Lioness began with a focused cast built around Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Oliveira. Three seasons later, the ensemble has expanded, but the central question remains the same: who are the actors behind the covert operatives, intelligence officials and families at the heart of Taylor Sheridan’s drama?
The Lioness Cast at a Glance
The Paramount+ series premiered in 2023 under the title Special Ops: Lioness. It was created by Taylor Sheridan and inspired by a real U.S. military program. Paramount currently lists three seasons and 24 episodes.
The principal cast includes Zoe Saldaña as Joe, Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz Manuelos, Nicole Kidman as Kaitlyn Meade, Michael Kelly as Donald Westfield, Morgan Freeman as Edwin Mullins, Genesis Rodriguez as Josephina Carrillo, Dave Annable as Neil, and Jill Wagner as Bobby.
That lineup changed in importance as the story moved from one undercover operation to another.
Zoe Saldaña Plays Joe
The central figure is Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña. Paramount describes Joe as the station chief responsible for training, managing and leading the female undercover operatives working within the Lioness program.
Saldaña is not simply an actor on the series. She is also an executive producer. Paramount’s official material identifies her in both roles, making Joe one of the show’s key creative and narrative anchors.
Laysla De Oliveira Is Cruz Manuelos
Laysla De Oliveira plays Cruz Manuelos, the character who became the focus of the first season’s undercover mission.
Paramount’s original casting announcement described Cruz as a young Marine recruited into the Lioness Engagement Team. Her assignment places her inside a dangerous operation where maintaining her cover becomes central to the story.
De Oliveira remained part of the main cast across the show’s first three seasons, according to the current series credits.
Nicole Kidman Plays Kaitlyn Meade
Nicole Kidman joined the project before its 2023 premiere as Kaitlyn Meade, a senior CIA supervisor.
Paramount described Kaitlyn as an experienced intelligence official navigating the politics of a high-level position while also mentoring Joe and dealing with pressures in her personal life. Kidman also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Her presence helped establish the show’s senior intelligence layer beyond Joe’s field operations.
Morgan Freeman’s Role Is Edwin Mullins
Morgan Freeman plays Edwin Mullins. When Paramount announced his casting in January 2023, the studio identified Mullins as the United States secretary of state.
Freeman’s role later became more prominent. Paramount announced in 2024 that he had been elevated to a series regular for the second season.
This is one reason the Lioness cast cannot be understood only through its undercover operatives. The series gradually built a larger political and intelligence framework around them.
Michael Kelly and Donald Westfield
Michael Kelly plays Donald Westfield, another senior figure connected to the Lioness operation.
His character operates at a level above the field teams, helping connect intelligence decisions with the missions carried out by Joe and her operatives. Paramount listed Kelly among the returning principal cast when it announced the show’s second season.
The role became especially important as the series expanded its storyline beyond Cruz’s original mission.
The Supporting Cast Matters Too
The supporting cast includes Jill Wagner as Bobby, Genesis Rodriguez as Josephina Carrillo, Dave Annable as Neil, and several members of the tactical team. Paramount’s current series listing also names LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton and Hannah Love Lanier among the cast.
Annable plays Neil, Joe’s husband, while Lanier plays Kate, Joe and Neil’s daughter. Those family relationships are important because Lioness repeatedly contrasts Joe’s professional responsibilities with the consequences those responsibilities have at home.
What About Stephanie Nur and Aaliyah?
Stephanie Nur’s Aaliyah Amrohi is another important name from the series.
Paramount originally described Aaliyah as the daughter of a billionaire businessman with alleged terrorist connections and a high-value target of the CIA operation.
Claims about characters returning in future seasons should be treated carefully. Casting information can change, and no official announcement should be replaced with fan speculation.
Is There a Season 4 Cast?
As of September 2026, Paramount’s official listing covers three completed seasons. It does not provide a confirmed Season 4 cast announcement.
Recent reporting has discussed the possibility of another season following the third-season ending, but the casting details for a potential fourth season should not be presented as confirmed until Paramount makes an official announcement.
That distinction matters because online casting rumors can quickly become mistaken for studio-confirmed information.
The Mystery Behind the Lioness Cast
The Lioness cast has grown considerably since the original 2023 lineup. What began around Zoe Saldaña’s Joe and Laysla De Oliveira’s Cruz has developed into a larger ensemble involving intelligence officials, military operators and family members.
The verified core is clear: Saldaña leads as Joe, De Oliveira plays Cruz, Kidman portrays Kaitlyn, Kelly plays Westfield, Freeman plays Mullins, and the supporting ensemble fills out the show’s military, intelligence and family worlds.
